Department of National Defence Marker Program
The Last Post Fund works with the Department of National Defence (DND) to provide headstones, markers or memorials for eligible Canadian Forces members.
What type of grave marker may be placed?
Depending on cemetery regulations and the wishes of the next-of-kin, various options are available under the DND Marker Program. These options include placement of an official DND upright or flat granite marker or partial reimbursement for a privately purchased plaque or lasting memorial. Please contact your nearest Last Post Fund Branch to discuss available options.
What information is needed to start an application?
The Last Post Fund must receive a requisition from the Department of National Defence to assist with the placement of a DND military-style marker. Upon receipt of this requisition, the Last Post Fund will contact the next-of-kin to offer assistance.
Who may I contact to ask about DND funerals or burials?
Inquiries related to DND funerals or burials may be directed to the Veterans Affairs Canada DND Centre for the support of injured and ill Canadian Forces members and their families:
