Honouring the sacrifice of our Veterans

The Last Post fund held three commemorative ceremonies on June 10 & 11, honouring the Canadian Veterans who sacrificed their lives over the years to preserve ours. In the morning of June 10, a ceremony was held at the Sailors’ Memorial Tower (the Clock Tower) in the Old Port of Montreal. The Memorial was built after the end of the First World War, a war characterized by tremendous loss of life. In the afternoon, a second ceremony was held at the passageway connecting Mount-Royal and Notre-Dame-des-Neiges cemeteries, which symbolizes the camaraderie and uniformity of sacrifice of Protestant and Catholic soldiers during the Wars. A Cross of Sacrifice stands on the boundary of the war graves sections of the two cemeteries. These sections are historically important as the first LPF burials were done here. On June 11, the Last Post Fund Québec Branch held its annual commemoration ceremony in honour of Canadian and Allied Veterans who lie buried at the National Field of Honour in Pointe-Claire, Québec. This year’s ceremony marked the 70-year anniversary of the end of the Korean war, where more than 26,000 Canadians served and 516 died. A commemorative plaque was presented to guest of honour Colonel Dongwon Lee, Defense Attaché of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea.
