Mount Pleasant Cemetery, St. John’s

The Newfoundland-Labrador Field of Honour was established by Veterans Affairs Canada and was officially opened on 2 July 1983. The Field of Honour provides a final resting place where Veterans can be laid to rest with their fellow comrades.

Where is the Newfoundland-Labrador Field of Honour located?

It is located within the Mount Pleasant Cemetery on Hamilton Avenue Extension in St. John's.

Who may be buried at the Newfoundland-Labrador Field of Honour?

The Field of Honour is open to all Veterans who served during World War II and the Korean War, in Special Duty areas and during Peacetime. Veterans and their surviving partners may be buried in the Field of Honour. Concrete burial vaults are placed at double depth in all regular casket plots, in order to accommodate Veteran and surviving partner burials in the same plot. Double depth burials are also used for the Field of Honour cremation plots.

How can arrangements be made for the Newfoundland-Labrador Field of Honour?

The Funeral Home, on behalf of the family, can contact the Administrator of the Mount Pleasant Field of Honour to request a burial plot. The Administrator of the Field of Honour will contact the Newfoundland office of the Last Post Fund to confirm service eligibility for a Field of Honour burial. The Newfoundland office is also to be contacted by the Administrator for all spousal burials, and they will contact the family with information on commemoration choices for the Veteran's spouse.
